Christmas
Giving the gift of friendship
For many, Christmas Day is a day for family, for getting together and celebrating with loved ones. Sadly, however, for some people without family or close friends, it is the loneliest day of the year. A time when isolation, loss and grief are even more keenly felt.
Get ready for a season of warmth and connection! For the 13th year running, we’re delighted to be hosting our Christmas programme of events throughout the festive season, including our Christmas Day event, in 2024.
We will be holding a Christmas Day lunch to bring some festive cheer to people who may otherwise spend Christmas Day alone. We have a range of roles available on the day and around the Christmas period.
Volunteer
If you would like to volunteer on Christmas Day to help us bring the day to life, please sign up below. Many of our Link friends still need help getting to and from the venue on Christmas Day. Please sign up below if you are able to transport someone or deliver a meal to someone who will be enjoying their lunch from home.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via email (volunteer@linkvisiting.org) or by phone on 0118 979 8019
Refer yourself or someone you know
We understand how difficult and painful the festive season can be for those on their own. We're bringing festive cheer to those who are alone in Wokingham Borough and who would love some extra company. This will include a friend to talk to, gifts and a delicious, traditional Christmas dinner at a local venue or by doorstep delivery by a friendly volunteer. If you or someone you know would like to join us, please complete the form below.
Support us
Funding is urgently needed to allow us to run a comprehensive, and varied, programme of events throughout the Christmas period. We also want to ensure that all our Link Friends receive a gift from us, as it may be the only one they are given.
We rely heavily on donations to support those in our community who need us most. With your help, we can bring some festive cheer to many older people who would otherwise face the season alone and carry on our vital support throughout the winter months!
Kindness Tree campaign
After last year’s successful launch, our Kindness Trees are back again this year. Our campaign will raise funds to support our important work throughout December, including our Christmas Day event, where we provide a delicious dinner at a local venue, a friend to talk to, and a gift of treats. Choose a tag and make a real difference. For more information, please contact Liz.mcdaniel@linkvisiting.org.
